I love to read. I used to read a book a day during my summers off from teaching. I didn’t read anything really substantial….mostly psychological thrillers and romance novels…but I loved it and would devour books.
I love my boys. They are the sweetest, smartest, happiest boys in the world! (No bias here!) We read many times every day and they love reading just like their Momma.
I love to teach. I’ve wanted to be a teacher since I was a little girl. I used to play school all the time as a child and I eventually went to college and earned my B.S. in Elementary Education. Later I earned an endorsement in ESL teaching and a M.A. as a Reading Specialist. During my career I taught for 5 ½ years in the classroom, 1 year in a reading clinic during graduate school working with middle and high school students as well as adults, I was a Differentiated Instruction coach during summer school, an Individual Learning Needs Coach for one year coordinating interventions for students, I spent 4 years as a Reading Specialist in an elementary school and I spent five years working as an adjunct professor in a graduate school of education teaching literacy methods classes and supervising student teachers. Almost every bit of my teaching experience has been in Title I schools serving a very diverse population of students. I LOVED every second of it!
This blog is dedicated to reading with your children. I know from my work as a teacher the importance of reading with your kids and it’s also great fun! Now that I have my own little munchkins, I’m experiencing it all firsthand. I hope to share my insights about literacy so that you can create your own little curious, intelligent, readers and writers!
